Epic Games Beats Nintendo as the World’s Most Popular Gaming Company

With the world still deep in the COVID-19 pandemic, people are gaming more than ever before while stuck inside their homes. Noting the changes in purchasing patterns over the last year, BusinessFinancing.co.uk turned to Google Keyword Planner, measured search volume by country, and deduced from that which is the world’s favorite gaming company.

The developer of Fortnite and operator of the Epic Games Store, Epic Games, took the top spot. While this should come as no surprise to anyone who’s paid attention to the industry recently, it’s still startling to see Epic surpass older, more famous companies.

most popular gaming brands

Epic’s meteoric rise to the top of the gaming world is due to the runaway success of Fortnite, which had over 350 million players worldwide as of May 2020. The gaming giant was found to be the top brand in 141 countries with 4,716,375 global searches in total. According to the map created by BusinessFinancing.co.uk, Epic was deemed to be the most popular gaming company throughout all of Central and South America, as well as most of Africa, Asia, and Europe.

The immediate runner up was Nintendo, which remained the top company in 24 countries with 3,120,010 total searches. Boosted by popular franchises including Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Pokemon, Nintendo proved to be the most popular brand in Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and United States.

The third-most popular gaming company is Gameloft, a publisher that focuses on mobile games, which is widely popular in Central Africa. Rounding out the top five are Atari and third-party publisher Activision. Other companies spotted on the map include Bioware, Blizzard Entertainment, Konami, 1C Company, Rare, and Ubisoft.
