Writing on the PlayStation.Blog, Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President, Platform Planning & Management said, “Today I’m pleased to share that our next-generation VR system will be coming to PlayStation 5, enabling the ultimate entertainment experience with dramatic leaps in performance and interactivity. Players will feel an even greater sense of presence and become even more immersed in their game worlds once they put on the new headset.”
We can expect a new PS VR headset which “enhances everything” including the resolution, field of view, tracking, and input. On input specifically, Sony is promising a brand new controller that incorporates, “some of the key features found in the DualSense wireless controller, along with a focus on great ergonomics.”
The bad news is, this next-gen virtual reality hardware isn’t going to launch in 2021, which considering how difficult it is to buy a PS5 console right now, sounds like the right decision. Sony hasn’t given a specific date, but 2022 seems likely. When it does arrive, and just like on PS4, it will offer Sony a feature Microsoft simply does not have on Xbox Series X|S.
