M2 MacBook Air Pre-Orders Open July 8

Apple today announced(Opens in a new window) that the redesigned MacBook Air with M2 processor will be available to pre-order on July 8(Opens in a new window) before becoming available to buy worldwide on July 15.

While the M1 MacBook Air remains available for $999, the more expensive $1,199 M2 version brings with it a number of tempting updates. Alongside the more powerful processor that promises an 18% CPU and 38% GPU performance boost, Apple is offering a redesigned all-aluminum unibody that weighs 20% less than the previous model at 2.7 pounds.

Add to that a larger 13.6-inch display, 1080p webcam, MagSafe charging port, the unfortunate screen notch, and battery life rated up to 18 hours, and you've got a compelling new, and completely silent, laptop to consider.

Although the price of an M2 MacBook Air starts at $1,199, it soon escalates if you desire a little more power. Bump the spec up from an 8-core GPU to the 10-core version, which also increases the SSD storage from 256GB to 512GB, and the price jumps to $1,499. Maxing out the spec to include 24GB of RAM and 2TB of storage, takes the price up to an eye-watering $2,499.
