Microsoft Shows Us How to Disassemble a Surface Laptop Studio

Microsoft is embracing right to repair and even showing us how to safely disassemble Surface hardware. It started with the Surface Laptop SE back in January, and now the the Surface Laptop Studio has appeared in an official teardown video.

The video below shows Colin Ravenscroft, Senior DFX Engineer on the Design for Repair team at Microsoft, going through the process of taking apart a Surface Laptop Studio. You'll be happy to see there is no glue, and the only required tools are a spudger, tweezers, and two screwdrivers.

Just about every part inside is easy to remove thanks to the use of screws instead of glue. So even if you don't intend on attempting this yourself, it's good to know a reputable repair store can easily work with the different components that may need replacing.

Microsoft announced last year that it was expanding the repair options for its devices, as well as partnering with iFixit to offer official repair tools for Surface devices. If it can do the same for parts, then Microsoft is going to receive a lot of positive feedback from the right to repair community, but also as a company taking steps to allow devices to work for longer, which is good for the environment.
