Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 Reportedly Launching in June

The Surface Laptop Go, Microsoft's smaller, lighter, cheaper Surface Laptop, is expected to receive a hardware refresh in June.

As Windows Central reports, the new model is codenamed “Zuma,” but will inevitably end up being called the Surface Laptop Go 2. For anyone who likes the existing Go, which includes us here at PCMag, you'll be happy to hear Microsoft isn't going to mess with the design.

Although Microsoft has yet to confirm the Go 2 exists, multiple sources have stated it will retain the same 12.4-inch display, as well as the same casing, ports, and materials. What's changing is the processor inside, which will be upgraded to an 11th Generation Core i5. Exiting models use a 10th Generation Core i5-1035G1.

The base configuration of 64GB eMMC of storage, 4GB of RAM, and a $549 price point will remain. That's not a great configuration in 2022, but 128GB/8GB and 256GB/8GB models are also expected to be offered for $699 and $899 respectively, and both will include a fingerprint reader. All three will of course run Windows 11.

The only other rumored change is to the color options. Alongside Platinum, Ice Blue, and Sandstone, there may be a Sage option. Hopefully, Microsoft also takes the opportunity to sort out a few of the shortcomings of the existing Laptop Go, notably the middling audio quality, lack of a backlit keyboard, and the webcam without face recognition.
