Acer’s $3,799 Triton 17 X Is a Gaming Laptop Beast

Acer is upgrading its Predator gaming laptop line with four new products, including a 17-inch powerhouse rig that features elite specs.

Acer calls the Predator Triton 17 X its “most powerful gaming laptop to date.” Configure it with up to an Intel 13th-gen Core i9-13900HX processor and Nvidia’s RTX 4090 GPU for laptops. Together, the components promise to deliver top-notch frame rates for PC games. But on the downside, the Windows 11 gaming laptop is expensive. It arrives in North America next month starting at $3,799.

The company adds that customers can also configure the Triton 17 X with up to 64GB of DDR5 RAM and up to 4TB in SSD storage. So it sounds like the pricing can easily balloon past $3,799, depending on the configuration. Users can also pick between two 17-inch displays—one that features mini-LED technology at a 250Hz refresh rate, or one that uses an IPS display offering a 240Hz refresh rate. Both screens feature a 2,560-by-1,600 resolution.

Despite the powerful specs, Acer says the laptop is less than 1-inch thick. It was designed to carry a premium feel by sporting a metal chassis. But it’s still fairly hefty, weighing in at 6.61 pounds. To prevent overheating, the Triton 17 X was built with a triple-fan cooling system, a vapor chamber, along with “strategically placed” intake and exhaust vents.

“The Predator Triton X 17 comes packed with other premium features including a per-key RGB keyboard, fingerprint reader, and glass touchpad,” the company added. “It also possesses a powerful DTS:X Ultra surround sound six-speaker system that provides stunning sound regeneration to elevate gaming, film, and music experiences.”

There's also an Ethernet port, Wi-Fi 6E, an SD card reader, and Thunderbolt 4 connectivity.

Predator Helios Neo 16

For gamers on a budget, the Predator Helios Neo 16 goes on sale next month starting at $1,199.

The 16-inch laptop tones down the specs, offering either an Intel Core i5-13500HX processor or an i7-13700HX. Meanwhile, the GPU maxes out at an Nvidia RTX 4070. But the components can still power a “top-line” gaming experience, according to Acer.

“To keep all this power cool, the Helios Neo also includes Acer’s advanced cooling system, featuring a custom-engineered all-metal AeroBlade fan technology and liquid metal thermal grease on the CPU to push performance to its maximum potential,” the company added.

In addition, the laptop comes with a lower-resolution, 1,920-by-1,200 screen with a 165Hz refresh rate, although users can upgrade it to 2,560-by-1,600. It'll weigh in at 5.7 pounds.

For those who need something smaller, Acer created the Predator Triton 14, which weighs only 3.7 pounds and features a 14-inch screen. It’ll go on sale next month starting at $1,499.

The product can be configured with up to an Intel 13th Gen Core i7-13700H processor and an Nvidia RTX 4070 GPU. It also supports a 1,920-by-1,200 display or a more powerful mini-LED 2,560-by-1,600 display with a 250Hz refresh rate. Acer is marketing the product to consumers looking for a laptop for work and gaming.

Predator Helios 3D 15 SpatialLabs Edition

The final product, the Predator Helios 3D 15 SpatialLabs Edition, is designed to offer a glasses-free 3D experience. The 15.6-inch laptop uses a 3D stereoscopic display, an eye-tracking camera, along with rendering technologies to display two separate views of the same scene into your left and right eyes.

The latest Predator Helios represents a refresh from last year’s version, which also offered a 3D-gaming experience. The new model also features premium specs; customers can configure it with up to an Intel Core i9-13900HX processor and an Nvidia RTX 4080 GPU.

“It also provides different 3D gaming modes with 3D+ and 3D Ultra settings for over 70 titles, with more being added on a continuous basis,” Acer added.

But the product won’t be cheap. It arrives in June starting at $3,499. Stay tuned for our reviews.
