CES 2023 Hands-On: Lenovo’s ThinkBook Plus Twist Flips Between Regular and E Ink Screens

Among the many laptops announced during CES 2023, one of the most out-there fascinating has to be the Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Twist. The ThinkBook Plus line has become synonymous with different takes on dual-screen laptop design, but this latest effort is a little bit modern while also being a little bit retro, combining sharp OLED and color E Ink with a twist hinge design that echoes the first 2-in-1 laptop hybrids.

A Deeper Look at This Dual-Screen Device

The ThinkBook Plus Twist is a compact 13-inch business laptop but, beyond the 13th Generation Intel processors and Wi-Fi 6E, the standout feature is the back-to-back, Janus-faced screens.

On one side is a 13.3-inch OLED display with a 2.8K native resolution and support for both touch input and stylus pen. That would be impressive enough by itself, with its rated 400-nit brightness, 100% DCI-P3 color-gamut coverage, and Dolby Vision HDR support.

But on the flip side of that OLED panel is another panel, a 12-inch color E Ink display that's on what you would typically think of as the lid. That second screen can be used to type documents without eye strain, or to jot down notes with the supported pen.

Swiveling back and forth between the two with a center-mounted twist and fold hinge, the laptop can be used with either display showing in typical laptop mode, or with either showing with the unit closed and oriented like a tablet.
