HP Reveals ‘Lighter Than Air’ Elite Dragonfly G3 Laptop

HP has revealed the latest addition to its Elite Dragonfly range of laptops with a “lighter than air” Elite Dragonfly G3.

The “lighter than air” marketing term means this Windows 11 laptop weighs just 2.2 pounds, but the weight will increase depending on its final configuration (and there are quite a few options).

HP views the G3 as a “highly portable” laptop for mobile professionals, allowing them to work anywhere, but it doesn't seem to make any big compromises to achieve that portability. Inside the 0.65-inch thick case you'll find an Intel 12th-gen processor with up to 32GB of LPDDR5 (soldered) RAM and up to 2TB of storage. There are three 13.5-inch 3:2 aspect ratio display options available: a 1280p 400 nits panel, a 1280p 1,000 nits panels, and an OLED 3K2K 400 nits touch-screen option.

Although battery life hasn't been revealed yet, HP is offering either a 4-cell 45Whr battery or a 6-cell 68Whr battery, which should see you through an entire day without needing to recharge. The other good news it the fact HP made the battery and SSD “IT replaceable.”

Other features of note include Bang & Olufsen audio, which combines premium speakers with four discrete amps, a USB-A 3.1 charging port, two USB-C (Thunderbolt 4) ports, a HDMI 2.0 port, a Nano SIM slot, and a combination headphone/mic port. Wireless connectivity includes Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and optional 4G, 5G, and NFC.

For privacy and security, there's a fingerprint sensor, HP Sure Shutter for disabling the webcam with a single click, and HP Sure View Reflect if you want a privacy filter on the display. Business users also have the option of HP Wolf Security, which includes a number of advanced security features such as self-healing firmware, in-memory breach detection, threat containment isolation, and remote recovery from firmware attacks.

Pricing has yet to be revealed, but HP intends to launch the Elite Dragonfly G3 in March in either a Slate Blue or Natural SIlver finish. The hybird magnesium/aluminum casing uses at least 90% recycled magnesium, and the laptop has undergone 19 MIL-STD-810H tests, and is therefore safe to sanitize using household wipes.
