HP Unveils Elite Dragonfly Chromebook With Haptic Trackpad

Alongside its new “lighter than air” Elite Dragonfly Windows 11 laptop, HP is also releasing Elite Dragonfly Chromebooks complete with a couple of “world's first” features.

HP designed the 2.83-pound Elite Dragonfly Chromebook Enterprise to be an advanced Chromebook for business; it's the first Chrome OS laptop with Intel vPro and a haptic trackpad.

In terms of hardware, HP isn't being specific about the chip used beyond stating it's a “Next Gen Intel Processor” based on the Intel Evo platform. However, you can pair it with up to 32GB of LPDDR4x (soldered) RAM and a 128, 256, or 512GB SSD.

There are also three 13.5-inch 3:2 aspect ratio display options available: a 1280p 400 nits panel, a 1280p 1,000 nits panels, and a QHD+ 2,256-by-1,504 400 nits 10-point touch-screen option protected by Gorilla Glass 3. The haptic trackpad is also protected by Gorilla Glass, and the 51Whr battery supports fast charging for a 90% charge in 90 minutes.

The design of the Chromebook allows it to be used like a laptop or a tablet, and HP is offering a separate HP Wireless Rechargeable USI Pen for use with the touch screen. It can be attached magnetically to the side of the Chromebook and charges wirelessly.

As this is a Chromebook for collaboration, HP didn't skimp on the audio and opted for a set of four Bang & Olufsen speakers, edge mics for AI noise reduction, and a 5MP webcam, which can be turned off with a single click using HP Sure Shutter. For added security, there's a fingerprint sensor, Open Titan H1 Security Chip, optional HP Sure View privacy screen, and connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, optional 4G/5G, two USB-C (Thunderbolt) ports, a USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, HDMI, microSD, and combination headphone/mic port.

Just like with the Dragonfly G3, the Chromebook has undergone 19 MIL-STD-810H tests and is therefore safe to sanitize using household wipes. No pricing has been revealed yet, though, and it's unclear how the Elite Dragonfly Chromebook Enterprise and non-Enterprise models differ. We won't have to wait too long to find out as HP is aiming to release both models in April.
